Greenwich High's Wi-Fi Strengthens Digital Learning Environment

GREENWICH, Conn. – The internet access at Greenwich High School hasn't lagged since the school began the process of installing a Digital Learning Environment on campus, according to the school district's Chief Information Officer Phil Dunn.

Greenwich High School's recently installed Digital Learning Environment (DLE) wi-fi network has been able to handle high usage numbers since being installed.

After a Jan. 5 meeting with the DLE Student Ambassadors and the Student Council, Dunn said that the students thought the network was generally successful in handling the load of connections, but the network could be better when dealing with the rush of students checking social media in between classes.

The network is designed to handle about 7,000 connections, with the school averaging about 5,000 connections through a normal day and another 2,000 wired computers on the network.

The school commissioned Hewlett-Packard engineers to create the campus network, and engineers tweaked more than 30 wireless access points over Christmas break. More work is planned.

Future plans include another meeting between the Student Council, Headmaster Chris Winters and Dunn in about two months to gauge the students' and overall community thoughts on DLE.
