Man Charged In Violent Rape On Long Island

A suspect is in custody in connection to a violent rape that happened earlier this week on Long Island.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, Adan Alvarez, 23, who is homeless, made contact with a 31-year-old woman on the social media site “Locanto,” where arraignments were made to meet at an Oswego Avenue residence in East Atlantic Beach on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m.

After meeting with Alvarez, the victim attempted to leave and was physically assaulted, restrained and sexually assaulted, police said. The victim was able to free herself, leave the residence and contact police after Alverez fled the home. 

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was admitted for a broken nose, fractured skull as well as other cuts and bruises.

A subsequent investigation ensued, where an extensive canvass was conducted and a composite sketch of Alvarez was created.

On Friday, Oct. 4, a 911 call was dispatched for a possible trespasser located in a shed at a Mohawk Avenue, East Atlantic Beach home. 

Upon arrival by Fourth Precinct police officers and Fourth Squad detectives, Alvarez was found in the shed where he was identified as the subject involved in the sexual assault.

Alvarez is charged with two counts of first-degree rape, five counts of second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation: second-degree strangulation, first-degree burglary, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree kidnapping and third-degree criminal trespass.

He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday, Oct. 5.
