Shortly after 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, first responders in Suffolk County responded to the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, where there was a crash that left at least one motorist trapped inside a vehicle.

An alert was issued by the Suffolk County Police Department at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, advising that the highway is closed at Hubbards Path in West Babylon to allow detectives to investigate.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the closure is estimated to last upwards of four hours.

There were reports of one motorist who was being treated by paramedics after being extricated from a vehicle at the crash scene. It is unclear what caused the crash.

Police have not released the name or gender of any parties involved in the crash.
