First Presbyterian has been hosting Easter services for over 150 years. "This inclusive church has a welcoming, diverse congregation which values and embraces community," according to a news release. The congregation has folks from all parts of Bergen county, as well as Hudson and Rockland counties, as well as New York City.

"Easter is the central celebration of the Christian faith and we look forward to everyone in the community sharing this celebration with us," said Rev. Richard Hong.

The Good Friday Tenebrae service includes readings on the Passion of Christ and choral selections by the Chancel Choir, violin, oboe and cello. Tenebrae, Latin for "shadows," commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus with progressive darkness until the last lights are extinguished and the congregation departs in silence.

The identical Easter services, celebrating the Resurrection, will have music performed by the Chancel Choir and soloists, accompanied by brass quintet, timpani and historic pipe organ, directed by Dr. David Macfarlane. Hong will deliver an uplifting Easter message. Both services will end with full audience participation joining in Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus.

The Friday service begins at 8 p.m. and the Sunday services are at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The First Presbyterian Church of Englewood is one of the oldest churches in Bergen County. Its historic 1870 Victorian Gothic sanctuary has excellent acoustics and is bathed in light flowing through from the Tiffany and LaFarge stained-glass windows. The church is located at 150 East Palisade Ave.
