Arthur Lasprogato, 88, Norwalk War Veteran

NORWALK, Conn. – Arthur Joseph Lasprogato of Norwalk died April 19 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 88.

He was born May 21, 1923 in Hoboken, N.J., the youngest son of the late Louis Lasprogato and Anna Dimurro Aquino. Lasprogato relocated to Norwalk when he was young and attended local schools. He enlisted in the US Army during World War II and served with the 10th Mountain Division. 

After eight months in the Aleutian Islands, Lasprogato served a 16 month tour of duty in Italy. He was decorated with the Bronze Star for Valor for repeatedly rescuing wounded soldiers behind enemy lines. Upon his return home, Lasprogato met and married the former Rose Daly on June 7, 1947.  

Lasprogato worked as a tile mechanic and, in later years, as a security guard at Norwalk Hospital. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a Duckpin bowler at Broad River Lanes and a member of the Friday night "A-league" at Rip Van Winkle Lanes for many years.

He was also a member of the American Legion for 57 years, as well as a member of Laurel Athletic Club, the Neptune Boat Club and the Local Carpenters Union. 

He is survived by his wife, Rose; two sons, Arthur (Debra) Lasprogato and Thomas (Joan) Lasprogato; a daughter, Linda (Rikki) Ball; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Patrick and James; a son, Daniel; an infant great-granddaughter, Stacey Lynn, and his stepfather Frank Aquino.  

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary Church in Norwalk. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John's Mausoleum in Norwalk. Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home in Norwalk is handling arrangements.
