Teams and individuals from Second Congregational Church and other churches in Greenwich and in Port Chester and Rye, N.Y., are expected to participate. The 2-mile walk will begin at Second Church, at 139 E. Putnam Ave. at Maple Avenue, and end at Christ Church, at 254 E. Putnam Ave. in Greenwich.
Held all around the United States for nearly 50 years with more than 1,600 walks last year alone, CROP Hunger Walks raise awareness about hunger, as well as money to help feed families around the world. The walks support the ministry of Church World Service, an ecumenical Christian service agency. In addition, donations to the Greenwich walk will benefit Neighbor to Neighbor of Greenwich and the Carver Center of Port Chester.
“It's so important for faith communities and all thoughtful people to reach across divisions of background and tradition and town, and come together to end food insecurity, especially in our region,” said the Rev. Maxwell Grant, senior minister of Second Congregational Church. “This is a problem we can solve if we want to. I'm proud that so many local churches have decided to be part of the solution."
