Friends and supporters included Shawn Patterson Howard, CEO of Yonkers Family YMCA; George Oros, Chief of Staff, Westchester County Executive’s Office; Taryn Duffy, Director of Public Affairs, Empire City Casino; State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins; Ted Hevelka, Campus Operating Officer at Berkeley College, White Plains; and Rick Rakow, Food Bank for Westchester Board Chairman.

In an effort to raise awareness of the 49 million people in the United States who struggle with hunger, the Food Bank for Westchester staff and hunger advocates from across the country will wear orange on Hunger Action Day - Thursday, Sept. 4.

“Hunger Action Month is a time to bring attention to hunger in our area. We cannot fight every factor affecting hunger, but we can start here in Westchester by creating awareness about the issue,” said Ellen Lynch, executive director of the Food Bank for Westchester.

“This month we will be coordinating several different social media events and activities to provide valuable tools and information to our member agencies and the general public. We are also hosting our Annual Agency Day on Thursday, Sept. 18, where we invite 265 hunger relief member agencies to come together to learn how to better serve the community and strengthen hunger relief.”

Throughout September, the Food Bank for Westchester will coordinate several social media initiatives for this event.

Post or tweet photos of yourself wearing something orange to your Facebook or Twitter page. Also, send photos to info@foodbankforwestchester.org and the organization will post it on its Facebook page. When posting and tweeting use the following: @foodbankforwestchester, #hungeraction, @feedingamerica, #FB4W, #goorange.
