NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – October is Liver Awareness Month and The American Red Cross is in need of blood donations to support organ transplant and other patients.
According to the American Liver Foundation, more than 6,000 liver transplants are performed each year in the United States. Liver transplants are the second most common transplants, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need of transfusions during surgery.
Donors with all blood types are currently needed, particularly anyone with types O negative, A negative and B negative. All those who donate will be eligible to win a $5,000 Visa gift card from Suburban Propane.
Here are some upcoming blood donation opportunities:
Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Iona College, 715 North Ave.
Oct. 14 from 2-7 p.m. at New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, (Lawton and Huguenot Streets).
Oct. 7 from 2-7 p.m. at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 761 King St.
