Chamber Quartet Performs In Sleepy Hollow

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Friends of Music Concerts presents the Pacifica Quartet Saturday, May 14 in the Kusel Auditorium at Sleepy Hollow High School.

The program will include: 

  • Mozart’s String Quartet in G Major, K.387
  • Alfred Schnittke’s String Quartet No. 3
  • Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E minor, Op. 44, No. 2

The quartet is recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style and sometimes daring repertory choices.

“Remarkable expressive range and tonal beauty,” commented the New York Times of their recent appearance at New York’s 92nd Street Y, said a release.

During the 2015-16 season the ensemble started a residency at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston as well as a residency for the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music in Tucson. 

In 2009, the Pacifica won a Grammy Award for best Chamber Music Performance. 

Formed in 1994, The Pacifica is now based in Bloomington, Ind., having been named quartet-in-residence (with its members part of full-time faculty) at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in March 2012. 

Tickets for individual concerts are $30 for adults and may be purchased online at www.friendsofmusicconcerts.org or by calling (914) 861-5080. Students under age 18 are free. Seats are general admission only. Parking is free. 

The performance begins at 8 p.m at the school, 210 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.
