“It’s clean, sparse, less cluttered, and it usually involves shades of gray and beige,” says Rubeo. “And to go with this color combination, grass cloth wallpaper by Phillip Jeffries, is in huge demand. Customers bring in their favorite Pinterest boards or home magazines for inspiration.”
Rubeo notes that her clients seem to be entertaining less and, as a result, are investing less in expensive home furnishings. This minimalist style might include a book or a vase filled with flowers on a coffee table alone, she says. Window treatments have also been scaled back significantly, Rubeo says.
Another example of minimalist style is children's bedrooms, Rubeo notes,
"Children’s bedrooms used to be wallpapered but now they are painted. The younger residents of Rye tend to go on vacation more and entertain less, while older residents may still invest in more elaborate window treatments and bedspreads -- made of toile.”
