Rye Businesses Delve Into Fashion's Night Out

RYE, N.Y. – Purchase Street businesses kept their doors open later than usual Thursday night to welcome style seekers to Rye’s first-ever Fashion’s Night Out.

Angela Guitard, owner of the chic boutique Angela’s, spearheaded the event. She said everyone who came in the store gave great feedback. “We had tons of people,” she said. “We’re definitely going to do it again next year.”

In the evening hours on Thursday, over 15 of the shops and eateries of Purchase Street participated in Fashion's Night Out, an event that began in New York City in 2009 and soon became a global event with more than 18 countries and 4,500 events in the United States alone.

In between helping customers pick out accessories, Hayden Mitre, manager of the clothing store Great Stuff said, “All the stores that are open on the street were there. It makes the event an event. We’ve been having nice traffic. A lot of people are happy. They feel like it’s got a New York City vibe because everything is open. Usually everything is closed here.”

Weezie D’s was one of the more lively locations on Purchase Street, thanks to music pumping out of speakers by DJ Go In. At the boutique, Spacial Crenshaw, who was reorganizing a clothing and accessories display, said some of the customers complained that there wasn’t enough advertising for the event.

“You wouldn’t necessarily know that there was an event going on,” said Crenshaw. “They should emphasize more that you can go from store to store to shop.”

Guitard said that, in the future, when there’s more time to prepare, she hopes to close off the street and hold a runway show to make it an even more exciting event. “I think it really brought a lot of energy into the town,” she added.

The participating businesses and restaurants at Fashion’s Night Out included Angela’s, Nest Inspired, The Running Co., 350 degrees, Woodrow Jewelers, Weezie D's, the new store Walin & Wolff, Euro Laser Services Inc., Frankie & Johnnies, The Open House, Ruby’s Oyster Bar & Bistro, Rhythm In Rye Too, Town & Country Hairdressers, Lola, Financial Spyglass, All Paws, and Lesters.
