According to Chamber President (and lifelong Harrison resident) Holly Sharpe, the organization, in existence for more than 50 years is being "kickstarted" into high gear.

"Over the past few years there was a lack of interest, no one at the helm, and no membership base," she said. "The former Chamber had taken on a more civic-minded role in our community, rather than its intended purpose of helping businesses succeed."

The voluntary Executive Board is "extremely motivated" to see Harrison businesses not only triumph, but thrive and invigorate the community, she added.

"Today, we have approximately three quarters of our total member base who have already joined and we are hoping to reach 100 percent by the end of 2016," she added.

In other words, be on the lookout for a host of special events and incentivizing strategies including a new "Summer Savings Spectacular" on Thursday, August 6, where over 20 participating merchants will offer special deals and savings.

Come September 20, there are plans for a Marketplace in Ma Riis Park, where merchants will sell crafts, foods, services, etc.in an effort to raise funds for the Chamber. And, come Columbus Day weekend, expect a Restaurant-Pub Crawl to kick off the holiday.

Sharpe and her staff are also working on the possibility of a potential Farmers Market next spring, networking meetings, seminars, and more, along with a "First Fridays" campaign in 2016.

For now, don't be surprised when you start seeing "Its Great To Do Business In Harrison" signs lining the main thoroughfares and streets as part of a new awareness campaign.

Sharpe said all of this was in the works long before the grassroots "I Heart Harrison" group formed (see previous Daily Voice story here) but that the two organizations have the same goal -- to promote Harrison businesses, and ensure residential pride.

"Harrison has always been a place where families can feel confident in our community," she said. "Its top-rated schools, proximity to New York City and variety of people are all reasons why folks not only desire to live here, but often, like myself, stay to raise families."
