DineEquity said late Thursday afternoon that about 105 to 135 Applebee's restaurants will close, up from the 40 to 60 that were slated for closure in the first quarter. An estimated 20 to 25 IHOPs will close up shop, an increase from about 18.

There are more than 5,000 Applebee's Neighborhood Bar & Grill restaurants in all 50 states.

IHOP, known for the leading pancake chain, launched its first store 57 years ago.

There are numerous Applebee's and IHOP restaurants in the Hudson Valley.

Specific restaurant closures and locations have not yet been announced.

The move comes as more people opt for quicker dining options rather than a sit-down restaurant.
